Introduction to the ADVS 8x8x8 Desert Chameleon Vehicle
April 29, 2011
Lake Orion, MI - April 29, 2011 Advance Defense Vehicle Systems (ADVS) in Lake Orion, Michigan, USA, announces the introduction of the latest addition to the ADVS “Vehicle System”: the “Desert Chameleon 8X8X8”.
This striking new Desert Chameleon 8X8X8 vehicle is part of the novel ADVS ‘Vehicle System’ that is available in four configurations, a 4X4X4, a 6X6X6, an 8X8X8, and a 10X10X10 with 90+% common parts for ease of service, and logistical support.
This new ADVS 8X8X8 vehicle is also fitted with the same common “hallmark” ADVS features including:
•A unique ‘space frame’ removable “V” hull design which provides for a ‘lighter’ and ‘stiffer’ hull structure as well as providing for “adaptable” armor ‘modules’ that may be easily changed – in the field – to ‘higher’ threat levels or ‘different’ threat types.
•A modular, ‘quick-change’ power-pack consisting of a 600 horse-power Caterpillar engine and fully-automatic Caterpillar 6-speed transmission with full ‘world-wide’ Caterpillar support.
•High performance mobility comprised of a robust 2-speed transfer case for “2 speed ranges” of operation and an advanced fully independent “active suspension” system. This active system allows the vehicle to be ‘leaned’ on side slopes and/or grades for higher angles of operation, while adding to the turret weapon’s “elevation and depression range of operation”. Additionally, this active system provides for ‘multiple suspension heights’ for varying operational requirements.
•High performance maneuverability comprised of a ‘speed sensitive’ all wheel steering system which allows incredibly small turning circles at low speeds (critical in close urban areas and in extreme off road conditions) and a ‘left and right hand’ driver selectable steering position which may be shared ‘at any time’ between the side-by-side driver and commander, for better safety in extreme operating conditions with fatigued drivers.
•A high capacity diesel Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) for electrical power generation and independent operation of the air-conditioning/heating, without the main engine running. Additionally, the APU can also start the ‘main engine’ should the main batteries become completely discharged, at any time, for any reason.
•A ‘state-of-the-art’ Electronic “Backbone” Architecture which utilizes ‘industry standard’ protocols for maximum flexibility, expandability and reliability.
•Ease of crew ingress/egress provided by two ‘side doors’ fitted to each side of the forward 4-person cockpit area, a large ‘rear crew area’ with a sizeable ramp for ‘side-by-side’ rapid entry/exit of the many crew members.
Also fitted to these new ADVS vehicles is a new ADVS (UK) Modular Remote Turret (MRT) system.
•Optimized for ATK’s ‘full suite’ of medium-caliber chain guns, allowing any user to switch from a 25mm, 30mm, or 40mm chain gun within the same turret system.
•Basic turret is also capable of mounting M2HB, M240 or MK19 weapon systems.
•Fully digitally stabilized turret system compatible with the vehicle electronic back bone.
•Fully ready and fitted for an independent commanders Stabilized Electro-Optical / Infra-Red (EO/IR) viewer or commanders independent weapon system.
•Reload or service the weapons under armor without exiting vehicle.
•Turret is prepared and ready for a large complement of counter measure equipment.
In addition to the standard, innovative ADVS Desert Chameleon 8x8x8 features and accessories listed above, the vehicle can easily be adapted to unique applications including amphibious variants, command and control variants, and other specialized variants.
This new ADVS Desert Chameleon 8X8X8 is the art of the possible; allowing its users to have “capabilities” that have never been available before.
